Watford Women's Refuge Secures Further Funding
Wednesday 25 June 2008
Watford Women's Refuge is a valuable resource within Novas Scarman meeting the needs of women and children at risk of homelessness due to fleeing domestic violence.
The Refuge has recently undergone a best value and quality monitoring process with Hertfordshire Supporting People team and has successfully been awarded a new three-year contract for continued revenue findings.
Supporting People are not the only funding body, which support the work of the refuge. Watford Borough Council plays an important role in the delivery of the service. They specifically support the project by financing the building we operate from, a full time Children’s Support Worker and an out of hours on call service. Without the commitment and support from Watford Borough Council the service would not be able to operate effectively and meet the needs of the customers. They have also recently awarded us funds for a further two years. The Children’s Support Worker is an essential resource, which projects such as ours find difficult to fund. Hertsmere Borough Council & Three Rivers District Council also support us.
The service aims to be providing additional services in the future supported by Hertfordshire Supporting People team. Our vision is to create clear pathways for women and children into housing, ensuring that their needs are best met to enable them to rebuild their lives effectively. Our vision is to have a second stage property and a specialist floating support service operating by 2012.
If you have any questions, suggestions or would like to support the vision and or simply have an interest or would like advice, assistance and support please do not hesitate to contact shabina.choudhry@novas.org.
